He Will Calm The Storms

Luke 8:22-25.  Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.

This storm occurred at the end of a busy day.   It maybe so sudden that we have no time to prepare for it.

At this hour a STORM may be about to enter into your life, LOST JOB, SICKNESS, LOSS OF A LOVED ONE, BROKEN RELATIONSHIP, FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES and all you can see now is the WIND, RAIN, THUNDER and LIGHTNING.

Some one has said: “When we LOOK AT THE STORM IT BRINGS CONFUSION and when we LOOK THROUGH THE STORM IT BRINGS CONFIDENCE then when we LOOK BEYOND THE STORM IT BRINGS COMFORT.” This morning think with me, STORMS will come EVEN when JESUS is WITH YOU.   (Tatlong bagay tungkol sa unos)

I. IT WAS A GREAT STORM.

Luke 8:23. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

To fall asleep” = is a word found nowhere else in the New Testament and means “to drop off in a in slumber or to fall asleep” (does God Sleep? As a man Jesus needed sleep just as we need sleep)

Think with me this morning, why do STORMS come into our Life? When we are in the STORMS OF LIFE it’s IMPORTANT to know the CAUSE, so that WE MIGHT BE CONCERNED about the CURE.

STORMS OF TRIALS AND SUFFERING ARE INESCAPABLE. (They will come)

Luke 8:23. …. and there came down a storm of wind on the lake

1. Storms will come: Matt 5:45…..  He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.  In Mathew 7:24-27.  Jesus taught us: that the RAIN, WIND and THE STORM BEAT UPON THE HOUSE ON THE ROCK AND THE HOUSE ON THE SAND. HINDI NAMIMILI NG MAYAMAN O MAHIRAP, NG MAY PINAG ARALAN O WALA. IT WILL SURELY COME.

James 1:2-3. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers’ temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience

II. AT THE STORM JESUS IS THE GREAT SAVIOUR.

Luke 8:24.  And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was calm.

There is something FIERCE and AWESOME about a STORM. The POWER of a STORM is so AWESOME only GOD CAN CONTROL IT.

Luke 8:24.  And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish.

Sometime in the midst of Storms we want to say, “Where is GOD, why doesn’t GOD do something with my storm.”

(My response was HE HAS ALREADY DONE SOMETHING: It was a very COSTLY thing that He did HE SENT HIS SON TO DIE FOR THE SINS AND EVIL OF HUMANITY.)  When we see VIOLENCE, STARVATION, SUFFERING, DISEASES, WARS around the world we are prone to ask WHERE IS GOD?

JESUS IS THE CALMER OF THE STORM.

Luke 8:22.  Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

Luke 8:24. ….. “Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was CALM.”

1.  God brought you to this church today to hear these reassuring words: “We are going to the other side.” He will carry you through the storm.

John 16:33.  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

III. JESUS GIVES GREAT SERENITY. (Calm, peacefulness)

Luke 8:24-25. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

When going through a storm we need to HAVE two things:

(A). A POSITIVE SPIRIT.

Luke 8:24 Then he arose, and rebuked = “someone evil is behind the storm.” the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

The word REBUKED means the STORM was SATANIC. Satan brings TROUBLES, too. His PURPOSE IS TO HINDER OUR WALK WITH THE LORD.

1.  Satan would like to stop us from serving Jesus, hinder our walk with Him, trouble us to get us to quit our devotion to Christ, to complain about the hardship involved in following Him.

Jesus Said:

John 10:27-30. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.  I and my Father are one.

1 John 4:4. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

(B). HANG ON TO HIS PROMISES.

Luke 8:24. …. “and they ceased, and there was a calm”

If you don’t take anything else today, hang on to this SIMPLE THOUGHT. Will you REPEAT after me” JESUS IS IN MY BOAT; I KNOW I’LL GET TO THE OTHER SIDE. When FEAR comes and you want to run away, will you just say, “JESUS IS IN MY BOAT; I KNOW I’LL GET TO THE OTHER SIDE.” When the WIND PICKS UP and THE THUNDER ROLLS, and THE LIGHTING FLASHES will you say it?     JESUS IS IN MY BOAT; I KNOW I’LL GET TO THE OTHER SIDE!

What is your need today? (1). Do You Need Truth? It’s found in the Word of God.

(2). Are you Feeling LONELY and ISOLATED? Here’s a great big family in our church with OPEN ARMS to say, “Come Just as You Are” we will love you and accept you the way JESUS LOVES AND ACCEPTS YOU.

(3). Do you need INNER PEACE and TRANQUILITY so that, like JESUS, you can SLEEP SOUNDLY in the MIDST of the STORM? Come to Jesus – (He really is all you need).
